Does WORDREADY® run on any personal computer? (back)

Yes, but the computer's specifications must meet our minimum recommended requirements, you shouldn't have any problems. We encourage potential users to test the Demo version of WORDREADY® in their browser and contact us technical.support@L2.co.uk runs on your computer then so should the full version.


What are the minimum recommended requirements for a computer to use WORDREADY®? (back)

To use WORDREADY® you need:

  • an Internet-enabled PC or Apple Mac (Broadband recommended)
  • Windows 98/XP or Mac OS (with 1024 x 768 screen resolution or higher)
  • Internet Explorer 6.1 (or equivalent)
  • Shockwave and Flash players installed (free to download)
  • speakers or headphones

Please also check the Demo version of WORDREADY® to ensure that it will run on your computer.


Do I need to install WORDREADY®? (back)

No, but Adobe Shockwave and Flash players need to be installed on the computer that WORDREADY® is being used on. If they are not already installed, then they should automatically install the first time WORDREADY® is run. You can check if they are installed by looking at the Demo version of WORDREADY®. Nothing else needs to be installed on the computer.

Does WORDREADY® work on a Mac? (back)

Yes, WORDREADY® works on both PCs and Apple Macs.

Check the performance of the Demo version of WORDREADY® on your computer.


What kind of internet connection does WORDREADY® require? (back)

We recommend a broadband connection for WORDREADY®.WORDREADY® will run on dial-up and slower internet connections but it will take much longer to load.

If you are unsure, check the performance of the Demo version of WORDREADY® with your connection speed.


Does WORDREADY® need headphones or speakers? (back)

Yes, WORDREADY® uses a lot of sounds and recordings, which the learner has to be able to listen to. You can use headphones or speakers, but headphones may be better if groups of learners are all using WORDREADY® in the same space.


Does WORDREADY® need a microphone? (back)

No, a microphone is not required.


Will it work on a mobile or handheld devices? (back)

WORDREADY® currently requires the full Windows or Mac operating system to run (with Flash and Shockwave Players).

What screen resolutions are supported/recommended? (back)

We recommend a minimum screen resolution of 1024x768, although WORDREADY® can be used at full screen (press the 'F11' key in most browsers) with 800x600.


Is WORDREADY® firewall-friendly? Will it work from behind a firewall? (back)

WORDREADY® is designed to run on most systems. However, firewalls are configured by the system administrator and levels of security can vary greatly.

The best way to find out if there are any issues with your connection is to check the performance of the Demo version of WORDREADY® on your computer. If you find you have any problems talk to your system administrator and ask them to contact us technical.support@L2.co.uk.


Can I use the Classroom Tools off-line? (back)

No, WORDREADY® is an entirely web-based resource. The benefits of this are: low maintenance, flexibility of access, and low costs - very similar to the benefits of web-based e-mail accounts.

If you have a real need to work off-line, contact@L2.co.uk and we will explore options with you.


What browsers are supported? (back)

WORDREADY® has been extensively tested on Internet Explorer 6.1 and Firefox 1.5, and is compatible with the latest versions of other internet browsers.

How much setting up is required with WORDREADY®? (back)

Very little!

WORDREADY® is an online browser-based resource and just requires that Flash and Shockwave Players are installed. These are available free online and should install automatically (note: depending on your browser you may need to restart your computer after installation).

Are the Management Tools standards compliant (e.g. SCORM)? (back)

No, the WORDREADY® Management Tools use a propriety format. The web-based tools in WORDREADY® have been designed to provide a simple, focused and easy-to-use interface for management and teacher tasks.


How much maintenance is required? (back)

Very little indeed. Once accounts have been set up all that is required is that users log in to WORDREADY® and use it. This is one of the main benefits of an online web-based resource.

Maintenance will only be required when user accounts need to be reset and allocated to new users. This is straightforward to do with easy-to-use tools.

Occasionally, you may need to issue learners with new passwords or remind them of their usernames if they forget them. WORDREADY® Management Tools allow you to do this easily.
